Due to a recent update, your team may experience an Error when editing or adding Project Activities as there is a new Required Field on ALL Project Activity records, whether or not your company decides to use Production 2.0.
This error can occur when Users do not have Read access on the Expected Duration (Days) field, a new Required Field on the Project Activity object. This error can also occur when your Organization's Business Hours record has been renamed from "Default" to something else. Follow our Business Hours best practices to ensure you do NOT re-name Business Hours. Your team might also see an error if the field is not populated when they attempt to Save the record. Below is what the required field error looks like:
First, we'll need to give our Users access to the field, then we'll need to check our existing Project Templates and make sure this field is populated for every Project Template Activity.
Give the User Profile Access to the Expected Duration field
Navigate to the User who is experiencing the Error by going to Setup
Go to the Users menu
Click on the User, then click on their Profile
Scroll down and go to the Object Settings menu on the Profile.
Scroll down and click on Project Activities then click Edit
Scroll down and locate the Expected Duration (Days) field and set the access to both Read and Edit.
Also note that if this User is going to be assigning Project Templates to a Project, they will need at least Read access to the same field on the Project Template Activities object.
If the User is going to be creating Project Templates, they will also need Edit access to the Expected Duration (Days) field on the Project Template Activities.
Enter numeric values in the Expected Duration (Days) on ALL Project Templates
The easiest way to ensure that Expected Duration will be populated is to Edit all your organization's Project Templates and add the Expected Duration value to all Project Template Activities. This ensures that when new Projects are created using the Template, that the appropriate Expected Duration (Days) will be assigned to the individual Project Activities on the Project.
Navigate to the Project Template Activities Tab using the App Launcher menu
Be sure to change the List View to display ALL Project Template Activities
Next we'll need to use the Gear icon to Select Fields to Display in the List View and display the Expected Duration (Days) field.
Once we Save this change, we will be able to Edit the Expected Duration (Days) field from the List View. If you do not know the Expected Duration (Days) you can enter a value of 1. However, you should make every attempt to guesstimate the true Expected Duration for each type of Project Template Activity.
These values will be copied onto each Project Activity which is created using a Project Template.
