Each improveit 360 customer advertises their business in different ways. The Global Source Type field is used to track the broad categories of Marketing streams your company utilizes. If you have already set Global Source Type values and you need to setup your Lead Sources database, see also: Creating Lead Sources
First, let's review a little bit about the relationship between Source Type, Source and Lead Sources.
If you are doing a Data Conversion and bringing data in from a past CRM, your Lead Source Names will be mapped as a combination of "Source Type" - "Source ". Most CRMs only offer two levels of lead provider data, and therefore only two levels of Report Grouping. Here is an example of how the data is mapped when there are two points of data for Lead Sources/Source and Source Type:
However, if you are setting up improveit 360 Lightning without any existing data, or you plan to restructure your marketing Lead Source data, you can take advantage of three (3) levels of Lead Provider data in improveit 360 Lightning.
In this example, the broad Source Type is "Retail Outlet", the Source is "Home Depot" and the Lead Source is the specific Home Depot store where the lead was originated.
Note: Only System Administrator users will be able to set Source Type and Source values for your system.
Watch this 5-minute video and/or follow along with the click-path instructions below.
Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen
Navigate to the Setup menu
Search and go to the Picklist Value Sets menu
Click on the Source Types field
Scroll down to the Values section and review the active Values within your system.
If you no longer advertise with a specific type of Marketing, click Deactivate to remove it from your Global Source Types.
If you are setting up your system for the first time, or start advertising in a different way, you can add to this list by clicking the New button.
From here, type each Source Type value on a separate line, and click Save.
Note: The system will prevent you from creating duplicate values and will alert you to the duplicates. In this example, I am trying to add "Direct Mail", "Employee" and "Referral" but those are already Values in the field.
To change the Order in which the Values appear in the field, click the Reorder button.
Use the up and down arrows to change the order of the values within the field.
Click Save when finished making changes to this field.
Set the Source values on the Lead Source object
Next you will need to set the Source values that can be selected from each Source Type.
Navigate to the Setup menu
Go to the Object Manager menu:
Navigate to the Lead Source object, then select the Fields & Relationships menu
Choose the Source field
Scroll down to the Values section and review the active Values within your system.
If you no longer advertise with this specific type of Marketing, click Deactivate to remove it from your Global Source Types.
Tip: Depending on how many Source values you have from Data Conversion, it may be faster to move the ones you do not plan to use all the way to the bottom of the list, using the Reorder button instead of deactivating.

This ensures that when you change the Picklist dependency with Source Type (coming up in our next step) that your desired Source values are at the top of the matrix.
Click Save when finished making changes to this field.
Last, you'll need to set the Values for the picklist Dependency between Source Type and Source.
In the Picklist Options section, click the Change link next to Source Type
In the matrix chart, double-click on the Source names which should be available under each Source Type. They will be highlighted in yellow when selected.
